•Hopeson lives with his mother in the slums of Kibera. He is the 1st born in a family of 4. Two of his siblings are in school but are often sent home because of lack of funding. Their father passed on 5 years ago. The youngest has not joined school yet and the mother takes him with her as she goes around looking for temporary work. She is the sole bread winner for the family and does all she can to provide for her children.

•Life for her is a big challenge but she is willing to do any available jobs just to put food on the table. On some days the family could sleep with no food. Sometimes friends and neighbors come out and help them.

•She wants the best for her children but she is losing hope because things are getting harder and harder. Getting the boy into high school will give her hope once again and Hopeson will have a fair shot at life.
